Waste and Recycling
Our rubbish and recycling in Devon is collected by our local District authority - in Bradninch this is Mid Devon District Council. From the depot in Willand recycling is turned into bales of materials to be sent to recycling factories, while the black bin bag rubbish is sent to Energy from Waste plants in Devon. Our food waste ends up in an anaerobic digestion plant where bacteria digest waste and produce methane which is stored to be burnt and produces electricity. The remaining digestate can be spread on fields.

Our Rubbish
You can check what can be recycled here.
All our black bin bag rubbish is sent for incineration in Exeter or Plymouth, where heat and power is sent to the grid. The gases are monitored closely in accordance with EA limits for waste plants. The gases are cleaned before being emitted, and ash is sent for recycling. You can visit the plants, either as a school or as a group. Learn more about visits here.
